The head cop is spinning it as “They have had a VERY hard year, and they just needed to take a break.” It’s a good gambit: They HAVE been working long hours, partly because the Mayor (who’s also on the cop commission) has refused to crack down on the incessant rioting… which is NOT, as the right wingers and common taters from states where they ALMOST know where Oregon is, all the fault of BLM or “Antifa”, and IS almost entirely caused by more or less right-wingers who basically come to Portland TO riot. … anyway, it’s not a bad try. But the truth is, that particular cop was caught on camera FAR exceeding reasonable behavior, without even a shred of justification for his over-the-top excesses, and they quit in protest when he was charged.
Is there a group in US society with a greater sense of entitlement than today’s police? Police unions would be more accurately compared with the Praetorian Guard of ancient Rome, only it appears every US city has one.
They “resigned” from one particular group in the police force. They should be laid off. “Sorry, boys, we needed you in THAT job, we don’t need you elsewhere”.
Usually Mr. Rall doesn’t draw total falsehoods, but this one is a complete fabrication. Portland police have basically been told to stand down and do nothing to stop the riots. Hence without government support there is no logical reason to put yourself in danger by being on the Rapid Response team in Portland. Mr. Rall do you have any solid evidence of police attacking the demonstrators? If so I will delete this post.
What’s the big loss in these 50 cops quitting? For one thing, these losers didn’t quit the police force. They quit one subgroup within the force. The police department should use the opportunity to upgrade by permanently removing these losers. The quitters remind one of a bunch of kindergarteners… change the rules or they’ll take their guns and billy clubs home.
They quit to make it easier for alt-rights to crash peaceful demonstrations and turn them into riots… now the crowd control cops don’t have to be there and look the other way…
Bad cops are quitting in droves because they can’t beat people with impunity. Replace them with good cops and we can credit the bad cops with ‘defunding police’.

It’s the same BS that happened in Buffalo when that cop assaulted that old man and got fired because it was on video.

As it should be. If you can’t (or won’t) do the job the job you were hired to do, you should quit.

THIS is the problem. When people say “it is just a few bad apples”… I say that’s BS until the “good apples” stop covering for them.

Only the good cops can rid us of the bad cops.

Ah, Theodore! I’m stunned that you actually made me guffaw today.
