Hmmm, I knew that warning sounded familiar … and then I remembered. One of the (translated) inscriptions in Disneyland’s Indiana Jones ride reads: “TEMPLE OF THE FORBIDDEN EYE LOOK NOT INTO THE EYESOF MARA AND YOU SHALL GAIN ADMISSION TO THE TEMPLE OFYOUR GREATEST SECRET DESIRE” Back in the 1990s my 12-year-old niece and I started to translate the inscriptions using the decoder card, but the line moved too fast to get them all. So, for our next visit, I made a set of 3×5 cards, one for each inscription and a larger version of the decoder card. We then stayed by each inscription, waving folks past us, until we had translated EVERY one—that was a lot of fun. BTW, I still have those cards … somewhere.

Apparently, Helen’s stoneworking skills improved exponentially as she transited the tunnel, graduating quickly from rude wall scratches to life size, albeit creepy, statuary.
