Approaching a merging lane, the French either drop back a little or move over to the middle lane… What’ve they lost ? Half a second ?

On Friday, an old guy driving a Tesla sedan wouldn’t let me in, I was miffed.
She could easily see the lane was going to end, and probably has been there before, and just wanted to rush ahead of everyone else who politely moved over ahead of time in anticipation of the land ending
Had something similar happen – always make sure Siri is not recording!
