And when we get to ‘Thou shalt not steal’, see who can’t look at you in the eyes and that’s your guy." The Rabbi and the man are very pleased with his suggestion.
At the next service, the Rabbi is curious to see whether his advice panned out. He waits for the man by the doors of the synagogue and asks him, “So did it work?”
“Like a charm,” the man answers. “The moment we got to ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery,’ I remembered where I left my bike.”
As ministers, we often hope for any of the above, but notice that there are other motives at work. Many come to church so as to be seen in their fancy duds or expensive car. Some come for the free entertainment and the opportunity to look spiritual with their praise and hallelujahs. Only a few, that makes our work worthwhile, will be redeemed or recommit their lives to do the laws of God.

Most churches these days seem more interested in entertaining the goats than feeding the sheep.
