I was in a restaurant yesterday to pickup a to go order; very few people were wearing masks. I don’t believe that just a majority of the non-maskers had been vaccinated.

    A repost:

Vietnam has detected a new coronavirus variant that is highly transmissible and has features of two other strains.

“Vietnam has uncovered a new COVID-19 variant combining characteristics of the two existing variants first found in India and the U.K.,” Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said, according to Reuters. “That the new one is an Indian variant with mutations that originally belong to the U.K. variant is very dangerous.”

The announcement came on Saturday as the country is dealing with a recent spike of infections that started in May.

Long says the new variant might be responsible for the latest surge, according to the AP.

The new variant is more transmissible in the air and Long says scientists observed the variant’s ability to replicate quickly in lab cultures, according to VnExpress.

Seven other coronavirus variants had been detected in the country prior to Saturday’s announcement. The latest variant does not have a name yet, but the ministry of health plans to publish genome data of it.

Oregon’s rules (and I believe other states as well) are that businesses must either ask for and verify vaccination status or  require masks and social distancing. Most businesses seem to have decided that option two is the only fair way to avoid putting employees at risk from asshats opposed to vaccination. Though a fair number of smaller businesses, particularly bars, gyms have individually chosen to ignore that simple, sane and safe behavior in favor of making some sort of death cult / political statement.

Which is why I still wear a mask when around people I don’t know even though I am vaccinated. I’m sure that just by percentages a majority of them are vaccinated, but there are those…

There was a time when telling big lies was so dishonorable people just wouldn’t do it. The last four years changed all that.

I don’t care if John Baggett gets sick. I really don’t. Anyone stupid enough not to get the vaccine deserves what they get. If you are not vaccinated and not wearing a mask, I don’t care either. I’m vaccinated. I don’t need to wear a mask, and neither do other vaccinated people. Why should I? To protect those too stupid to go to a local pharmacy and get a free shot without an appointment? Now that the vaccine is widely available without cost, and without an appointment, the unvaccinated deserve whatever they get.

While we are at a majority of adults with their shots; 100 million are without—you can become president with 50.1% of the Electoral College totals but betting your life or your children’s lives is 35% too low for me.
