There is a bluejay in the backyard who will screech in my ear to tell me to refill the suet feeder. At least one house finch has figured out he can make the last of the sunflower seeds spread out where he can get them by tapping his beak on the side panel of the lantern-style feeder. So, plenty of signals, if you know what to listen for.

I have a couple of sparrows who definitely feel that way… sit outside my window and stare at me until I relent…
