And, @jmd4lsu, It’s easy to ensure you don’t tape over something unintentionally using VHS. Just break off the security tab. It then requires a conscious decision to overwrite.

@Teresa: With VHS you have to be careful not to record over something you want to keep. DVD & Tivo won’t let you do that.
