In a world where money is the way we count coup, the nations with the least available (credit and) cash ARE coming in last. Fortunately (though not “enough”), we also count coup by “doing good works” and “helping the needy” (though not “enough”) so it’s not as bad is it could be. Of course there are other things than “coup”. In particular, money is a very good stand in for the goods and services that you can use it to buy: It’s very nearly “real power”. And real power really gets the things that “you” use it to get.
