I had a dachshund chow mix (he was very long and very fluffy lol) named Skittles growing up on the farm and he was a real daredevil! He’d climb ladders and up the stacks of hay and he’d always ride on the side edge in the back of the trucks! Surprisingly he never got hurt! When I left the farm to get married I had to choose to leave him there with my family (he would not have been happy leaving the farm to live in town!) and he lived to 15/16 happily getting into mischief until the very end! I keep dachshunds to this day, awesome dogs:)
Seeing Ralph and Wally reminds me of how close my maternal grandfather was with one of their dogs named Bear. Bear was a smaller dog like Wally, but not quite as rambunctious. Still he was very loyal to my grandfather. When my grandfather was in the hospital the last time before he died, Bear ran off one day and never returned. My grandmother did not try to find Bear as she knew he went to join his master; he could tell my grandfather wasn’t coming back. I was not trying to bring anyone down. I just felt this was good example of a dog’s loyalty to his master.

I think all dogs are “rescue dogs” and all my neighbors are heroes.
