The message of religious coexistence that the Pope offered, if taken to heart, would be useful to Iraqis of both Sunni and Shiite persuasions, as well as those of Christian and other faiths, but I don’t think that is a likely or even possible outcome of his efforts.
This Pope is among the better ones that I’ve observed. Which doesn’t mean I think the “Giant Catholic Religious Machine” is a good thing or even, really, tolerable.
