I find it tolerably amusing that right wingers, who call liberals “snowflakes” for getting upset about right wing ugliness immediately turn around and get all upset when the liberals try to make things better.

Did they scream “Cancel Culture” when Disney decided to not release “Song of the South” on home video due to it’s depictions of the Antebellum South? Did they scream “Cancel Culture” when Warner Brothers decided to pull “Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarves” from general release? No, they ONLY scream it when they THINK that it’s to THEIR advantage after being egged on by a few nutballs from the Reich-Wingnut media.

Seriously, I fail to see any racism. What I do see is a lot of changes in what constitutes "racism.I have a collection of the comic strip “Terry and the Pirates” from the beginning until the US entering war with Japan. The Chinese characters as depicted are very racist, after Japan attacked us, they were also depicted as racist caricatures, but they were also depicted the same way on US Govt Posters

But Dr Seuss, sorry, what I see is it depicting the way things were when the books were published(fyi I have been married to a Japanese/Korean lady for 46 years as of March 10) My wife has experienced racism, both growing up in Korea(Japanese are very disliked by Koreans)and in the US where people think she is an AmerIndian, or Japanese or now Chinese. When our youngest daughter explained to her why a few Dr Seuss books are no longer being published she said, when you kids were littles in first and second grade and asked by your teachers to draw your parents, all 4 of you showed me as having slanted eyes, because that is a very identifiable characteristic.

Now the conical hats. A very common hat worn by Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese rice farmers. Does that mean the Pearl S Buck book “The Good Earth” published in 1931 is soon to disappear from the LOC? How about Mark Twains books Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn? They are both pretty racist. Or are drawings somehow more racist than books?

Any author worth reading is going to be more complex than simply tagging some of their work with a label or 2. Has eliminating works that are uncomfortable by today’s standards had any positive result? Why aren’t there as many complaints and action against the whitewashing of history and the denial of labor in the US curriculum?

Good grief, this was just a few of Seuss’s oldest books. How many read these growing up? I know I never saw them and I loved Seuss books, as did my kids.
