I wish this weren’t so close to the truth as it is.

The COVAX project (USA has contributed) makes it possible for “other” nations to vaccinate their populations. The science is like this:

1: The Covid-19 virus is very likely to mutate.

2: The mutation takes place as the virus infects another human.

3: The successful (from the virus’s point of view) mutations make them more likely to infect more humans (more “immediately” deadly is probably a neutral change, from that POV)

4: So, larger pools of humans who are not immune are likely to cause more infectious mutations, some of which may also be more “immediately” deadly.

5: Nations whose population is immune to a relatively benign version of the virus may still be vulnerable to some other mutation.

6: The obvious way to reduce the size of the large pools in point 4, which will help avoid the problem in point 5 is to see to it that humans in every place on earth get vaccinated.

7: Because the virus transmits so easily, and mutates so easily, reducing those large pools is not just important, it’s urgent.

8: And that’s why COVAX makes sense to reality based thinkers. Isn’t it GREAT that the USA is now working from that playbook again‽‽

Australia has hoarded (there’s no other word for it), enough vaccines to inoculate the nation three times over. Gotta love the capital system.
