Wherever there is a significant population infected by this virus, we are all in danger. This is the global aspect of being a global species. Thisis why it is so important to make a push equal for covid vaccinations to the push against smallpox but on a much shorter time span. Any vaccine should be non-patentable and made available to all comers.
The problem was two-fold. The Trump administration literally ignored the threat of the corona-virus for over a month after it had entered the United States; when it did FINALLY acknowledge its presence, it left it up to 50 DIFFERENT regulatory agencies (states) to implement remediation efforts of their own choosing – a more insane method of dealing with a national problem can hardly be imagined!
