It’s time to stop using the human rights argument. USA don’t blame Saudi Arabia on human rights when they commit atrocities in Yemen, kidnap and dismember journalists, apply religious low to maintain social and gender inequalities, have death penalty for homosexual…
And when I write USA, it goes for all European countries also. Plus the Black Lives Matter movement and riots in the USA shows that there’s segregation and unfaire treatment of a much larger percentage of the population than there is in China.
Not that China is being nice and innocent either, mind you, but I’m tired of this hypocrisy and everybody knows this “human rights” thing is just an excuse to act on economical and geopolitical matters. If China didn’t threaten the global economic hegemony of the USA and were just good customers buying American technology, Biden would congratulate them on the humane way they have handled their home terrorism problems.
The previous administration, with overwhelming bipartisan support, had brought to world attention the abuses by the Chinese Communist Party which has reportedly imprisoned more than a million Uyghurs in reeducation camps. While initially signaling it agreed with the outgoing administration’s designation of the treatment of the Uyghurs as “genocide,” (including Biden’s Sec of State, Tony Blinken) the Biden administration is now reviewing the decision — leaving analysts to wonder if it has turned its back on a rare opportunity for bipartisanship for a strategy of appeasement similar to how the Obama/Biden administration approached China, Iran and other abusers.

Being tough on China for humane reasons would be a positive change.
