Many years ago, I was at a seminar or class or something and we all were supposed to introduce ourselves and tell something interesting about ourselves. I said “…and I read four or five books every night.” I heard people murmur and I added “mostly Dr Seuss. I have a two year old.” They didn’t sound so impressed after that.

I started reading to my daughters when they were still in swaddling clothes. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. They both turned out to be HUGE readers.

So true! And somehow, though it’s hard to admit it at the time, that second wind often rides in on wings of joy. It makes me smile as I sit here and remember it. Yeah, sometimes parenting is real hard. But sometimes it feels so nice when your kids climb into your lap that way with a book.
