i’m surprised she’s got a quarter in her pocket. i thought she was busted flat.

Eh? That phone? Arf? You don’t suppose? Now we’re getting somewhere. But, why did it take Annie six months to phone?

This is just a wild guess, but maybe she’s been afraid to call because there’s been some funny business down at Warbucks Worldwide; and the last time she heard from those people they sent her a plane that blew up in midair. Naah, that couldn’t be it.

This is where Sandy’s trainer tells Daddy Warbucks to accept the charges from the collect call, even in these tough economic times.

I like Sandy’s inflection. Not many dogs would be able to get ‘Arf’ out as a question.

So, all you folks who kept yelling about Annie calling home, looks like she had a good reason, eh? If I had gotten almost blown up in a plane the last time I called home I wouldnt hurry so fast the next time.

She must be in our little town. We still have a pay phone in the foyer of our Wal-Mart. The only ones who use it though are the migrant workers. It’s nice to have though, for emergancies.

The cartoonist very clearly states Annie’s reasoning in her self-musings, and STILL some of you ask why she didn’t call sooner?!

@newenglandah, from my reading, dogs can understand about 800 words (as far as animal psychologists can tell), and cats about 200 (vs 30000 to 200000 for humans). Cats devote more of their brain to muscle coordination. So yes, dogs can communicate rather well - almost at a Pidgin English level.

My dog could recognize music. Her favorite piano piece that I played was Maple Leaf Rag. After I left for college, she would come running when anyone else tried to play the piece - however badly. When I returned, I started playing it, and she came running in to greet me.
