My gas-fired furnace wasn’t igniting and the serviceman looked at it, proclaimed it a leaky deathtrap waiting to kill my family with carbon monoxide and wanted $5000 to replace it. The second serviceman said it was old but safe, replaced a $10 ignitor and charged $50 service and labor. We did have the furnace replaced a year later and it cost $3200. Guess which company we used.

I once got charged for a service call and they were coming to tell me there was nothing they could do! After months, I got the charges reversed…but only as a credit if I’d buy anything extra in the future!
