In about a week we should start seeing the result of all the idjits who traveled or were traveled to and shared their air. I wish most of us will be unaffected, but I’m not really very hopeful.

Not visiting family this year meant no helping clean up way past my bedtime. And no snarky political arguments or listening to bratty children fighting.

Many years ago, a cousin pointed out that after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, the women were expected to do all the cleaning up while the men just went and watched TV, and it wasn’t fair. She was absolutely right, but we didn’t even realize we were doing it.

The first 5 years, my wife and I spent Thanksgiving mostly alone. From the time our sons were born and until this year we have not repeated that early pattern. Last week, we cooked our traditional meal, but with a smaller bird. We ate alone. We delivered a good sized portion to our single younger son. Older son and his family stayed home and cooked. The food was good, the hugs were imaginary but sent anyway, the love was still there. Gotta call that a good one.

What the future holds is in no way clear, but we pray the next Thanksgiving will be closer to those earlier years for everyone.

Doesn’t matter which game, they were pretty much all snoozers.

I never saw that growing up. I don’t recall ever seeing either of my grandfathers watch pro football. One did like his baseball, but you didn’t have to worry about that at Thanksgiving.
