I thought you guys broke away from Great Britain because, among other reasons, you thought people should get to be heead of State based on their competence, not who their daddy was.
OLD71: I understand. Up here, we are still theorically under the british crown (actually, the kingdoms of Canada and UK are separate, but belong to the same person). I’m one of those who think that the monarchy is a handicap for 21st century Canada and needs to be remplaced in our identity with something entirely canadian, made by us and not by centuries of a beautiful history, but not ours.
I may be anti-monarchic but I cant’ help but be swept off my feet by the stories of royal families and dynasties. It’s romantic because we would all like to be at their place. To me it’s right between “jumping off a cliff” and “having an orgy with 50 people” on a shelf labelled “stuff that’s fun to dream about but you really don’t want it to come true”.
Americans believe that because they have no king, they must all be commoners. In fact, the proper way to think about it is that, since the sovereignty belongs to the people, all Americans are royalty. So there.
In fact, formal settings with monarchs, Americans are supposed to bow as an equal rather than kneel before a monarch.

The best responce to this was one of the TV commentators (I forget which): “Why is it you hate America so much, George?”
Thanks but no thanks.

If Jeb wants it he’ll have to wait 12 years at least.
Remember when poppy started crying for Jeb earlier this year? His utter sadness that Dumbass ruined the smarter brother’s Destiny was palpable.
I laughed… no really I did, big gut-busting, eyes-tearing laughter.
