Going into the Pakistan operation, it was strict “need to know”, and few knew. Coming out of it, the same applies. The “media” need to be told to pack sand. The “need to know” of an American public that knew nothing about how we go into this whole mess, and bought anything “W” told them, doesn’t make their need greater than national security.
“oh, so it would have been better to just sit on this for a few days to get all the details right ?”
Absolutely!
In fact, they should have kept it all secret for as long as necessary - to allow the intelligence services to analyze and utilize the ‘treasure trove’ of data …
Instead, they rushed to the cameras to score political points, while a lot of the collected intelligence will be rendered outdated if not completely useless …
It would have come out sooner or later. The team left witnesses after all, and al quaida confirmed the kill.
I DO agree that the President should have announced the successful mission but put a gag order on everybody until the team was debriefed. Instead, the administration chose to feed the ever-speculating media, which made up what it couldn’t confirm.

” … my take on the ‘treasure trove’ of data is that it is all very dated and will have no value …”
And this is based upon your vast experience as … . . a dogcatcher …?
