The metric I remember was that one inch of rain would be equivalent to ten inches of snow.

For every inch of snow in Winter there is a week of mud in the Spring.

My older brother was gifted a St. Bernard, the original version of the breed with the heavy coat. A really stupid breed choice for the American South. I ended up adopting Chopper, and the happiest I ever saw him was sprawled in a bit of remaining snow on the northern side of the house on the coldest day of the year. Summers were brutal, but he’d go down to the creek every morning and soak in the water then spend the rest of the day drying out to make it more comfortable.

And don’t we just love that wet dog smell.

I was pinning this for the husky part — I don’t think they were looking for an answer, but now that I see the reply "the metric I remember was 1 inch = 10 … I have to add It actually varies by the type of snow. In the mountains of NM they counted 12 inches as 1-inch because the humidity was 10% and the snow was like confectioners sugar. Really wet snow could be 4-5 inches snow would = 1 inch
