^No, Osama WAS in Afghanistan when we invaded. It wasn’t until after his now-infamous escape from the Tora-Bora cave complex that he ended up in Pakistan.

What bugs me is the Pakistanis had the perfect opportunity to come clean about Bin Laden’s presence in their country, and they didn’t take it.

I’m referring to 2008, and the ouster of ‘President’ Pervez Musharraf. The new Islamabad government could have given up Bin Laden right then and there, and would have been held blameless for the years he’d been given sanctuary in Pakistan. “That was Musharraf, not us.”

    But noooooooo……!

The Saudi government is in an “interesting” situation. Having US troops stationed in Saudi Arabia insures the Saudi family remains in control. However, it also angers conservative Muslims that their government allow infidels on holy land. Were the US to pull out, the anger would abate, but the government would be vulnerable to the instability that has plagued other Mid-East nations as of late.

Jase99, The US withdrew the military from Arabia in 2003 in Muslim response to “infidels” on the home soil of Mecca and Medina. The US presence in Saudi Arabia was seen by many as to blame for 9/11 - note the number of Saudis on the 9/11 mission. The US presence in Qatar, Kuwait and other Muslim states is still objectionable to many Muslims. Expect continuing resistance and “terrorism” while the US occupies sensitive territory.

I stand corrected. Now if we can just get the hell out of the rest of the Mid-East and away from oil……
