Rocky Gorge is a real place. It’s a man made lake (actually a reservoir) situated between Montgomery, Prince Georges and Howard Counties in Maryland. It was created created in 1952 by the construction of the T. Howard Duckett Dam on the Patuxent River.
I’ve been there countless times. It’s operated by our local water company, the WSSC (Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission). With the proper permit it is used as a recreational spot for fishing, horseback riding, picnic grounds, hiking and boating.
