The teacher used to make me do that as punishment. I used to hit the erasures on the sides of the knee hole of her desk so that when she sat at her desk her dress would get covered in chalk dust. At that point I did not care that I was about to get more punishment. After that episode she stayed in the room until I was finished. I figured if I had to stay she did too.
Clapping out the chalkboard erasers was an earned reward for doing well. The principal put a stop to it because we were using the side of the school building and we left white and yellow chalk dust on the walls.
My mother used strong language when I was charged with clapping out the blackboard erasers. I came home covered in chalk dust and my clothes needed to be washed right away.
