They way they eat reminds me of Garfield.
I suspect it’s the alcohol they didn’t realise was in the syrup that’s upset them.
The number of pancakes they gulped up in panel 2 looks like way more than just the three in the first one.
Order something otherwise you not being nice. The alcohol is cooked off in the prep so you are okay. I believe you liked it.
Let me set your mind at ease. Rum is is a liquor make from sugar cane or molasses. When used in cooking, the alcohol evaporates leaving only the sweet taste.
I could get drunk on rum maple syrup. That and probably diabetes.
