I think they already know he’s been kicked out of school and are just waiting for him to come clean about it. What’s going to surprise them is what he’s been up to since then and with who he’s been doing it?
I’m guessing the school must have notified them right after he was kicked out. Some schools do that. Just when the former student wonders how he’s going to tell his folks, he finds that the school already told them their side of the story.
