Howie, what the two first posters say is demonstrably true. Can you supply one single substantial thing that the Republicans have done since taking power that isn’t hurting the poor? So far it’s all been abortion, taking away jobs, taking away health care, taking away rights, taking away pensions, taking away salary. While special tax breaks for oil companies are off the table.

The only screws Republicans give the rich are new brass ones for their yachts.

ARodney asks Howie a simple question.

And Howie finds himself completely unable to answer, so runs away with his tail between his legs.

    But he’ll still vote Republican.

    vortex,

You claimed to be non-partisan in one of your previous responses to me. I see no evidence of it.

    fennec,

Re: social darwinism. I’ve uttered the exact same words. For many on the right, life apparently cannot evolve by natural selection, but natural selection should be at work in our human society.

I think the paradox is resolved by simple selfish self-interest. They don’t want to be thought of as just another great ape. “I’m not the descendant of a monkey!” But they do want a form of justification for their greed and unwillingness to help their fellow persons.

For true believers, cognitive dissonance never seems to be a problem.

    vortex,

I beg to differ. Here’s what you said about 8 days ago in response to me saying you were being partisan:

“I got as much problem the Rep as the Dems.

I have been around the block a few times. A Corrupt Gov will fail. You can: Move, Correct it or become sheepeople.

    Lets correct it.

    Question Everything!!!!!”

Them’s the words of a skeptic and maybe a pragmatist, not a 100% conservative. You’re either being disingenuous or need to think more carefully about what you believe and say.

    Republicans hold strange views.

They support cutting costs and balancing the budget.

But they support spending billions a week killing people the other side of the world.

And they reject a universal single payer health care plan that would dramatically cut health care costs and provide health care to all. And what is more important in life than health?

Slavish adherence to an ideology getting in the way of logic.

They control the House, Howie. Can you supply one single substantial thing that the Republicans have done since taking power that isn’t hurting the poor?

I don’t usually vote straight party-line, but I’m sure at times it’s worked out that way.

    vortex,

Sorry to take so long replying. It’s been a busy work day.

I initially took you at your word that you aren’t partisan, but literally everything I’ve seen that you’ve had to say since then that takes sides has consistently been strongly anti- “Libs/Dems, ” as you say.

An honest person who is questioning everything would work equally hard to see the flaws in all arguments of any stripe. Objectively, you simply don’t do that when you use language like, “Dems want socialism.” That’s just partisan language designed to stir up emotions, not seriously consider each side’s strengths and weaknesses.

Your last comment about politics, art and science is a nonsequitur.

Church, the Republicans are trying to severely cut Medicare, with nothing to replace those cuts.

In fact, it sounds like they’re trying to completely eliminate Medicare, and replace it with a lump sum payment to private insurance corporations…who, of course, will always do what’s best for their customers, with no thoughts of replacing that ideal with increasing corporate profits. (That is what corporations are supposed to do, right? Put increasing profits for shareholders over any other goal?)

Is that what you’re saying is true of Obamacare?

Are the two really the same?
