Since May, Americans have been dying at a rate 2.3 times that of the European Union. The United States is less densely populated than Europe which should work in our favor. The United States has more and better medical facilities than the European Union. This should also work in our favor.
The virus does not know which continent it is on and infects at will any population.
The only factor I can see that differentiates us from Europe is leadership or lack thereof.
Scientific, medical, technological, and pharmacological knowledge increases exponentially each year, though it does not keep up with our arrogance. We can’t do anything more about a plague than they did in the 1300’s. They talked a good game then too. We just use more words.
