Problem is, Phil isn’t a jerk. He’s a nice guy. Flakey, a bit irresponsible, but at heart, a nice guy. He just isn’t interested in a permanent relationship at this point in his life.
It’s not the entrance, Phil, it’s your opening (line). So cheezy it makes Velveeta look gourmet! (But Connie just thinks “please pass the chips”)
I think Phil meant the opening line was his entrance, the way actors refer to their entrances. I seriously doubt he was asking if he should go back out and walk in through another door.
So, Phil’s planning on a little carpet munching followed by using the back entrance. It’s nice to see a stuffy cartoonist crack a few dirty jokes, use a few double-entendres.
This isn’t Lawrence’s “first rodeo” where his mother’s concerned, that’s for sure! I’m not surprised he recognized that cheesy come-on line when he heard it!!! He gets ignored and neglected by Connie every time there’s a man in her life and you just know he’s overheard her going on and on about how great and wonderful Phil is!!!!! And now that he’s back in the picture again for a while due to him currently living next door to them, it’s no wonder Lawrence is sad and depressed about the whole situation. I would be too if I were him and had a mom like Connie.

Exactly, Lawrence is smart enough to know this relationship is gonna go nowhere… Wise kid!

Different entrance? I never took Connie for the backdoor girl type.

Not a different entrance, just try the exit. Has Connie ever had the choice of a “nice” guy? I don’t remember any.
