Very little pride in many workplaces these days and has been so for many years. Largely due to a lot of company owners and top management who have over-inflated egos, no people skills and only think about themselves instead of the workers. How some places manage to stay in business is beyond me, and yes, I have worked for some of those places myself and didn’t take long to figure out what was going on and fortunately ended up in some better positions. Life is too short to spend a lot of time at companies who dont care about their employees.
Not all companies are that way. Sure you had a few, but maybe YOU were part of the problem. Assuming it will be a toxic environment, is a guarantee that it will be, because you will make it that way yourself.Both my wife and I worked in businesses where management appreciated staff and showed it. Unions tried to set up in both companies. The employees told them to take a long walk off a short pier. They did not want or need a union. There are many good employers, not all are evil. Painting all companies as evil ruins it for those who are not.The way Steve writes his comment shows contempt for management. Maybe he himself never aspired to advancement. The job is what you make it. Maybe Steve had a bad experience at several jobs, and he is justified to feel that way. Those companies are putting food on your table, putting a roof over your head, and clothing your kids.
