Look at the book she’s reading. New Lands by Charles Fort was an extremely far-out book about continents in the sky and disappearing planets and strange people. It never was very popular and never was taken seriously by anybody, I don’t think. A short article in Wikipedia says a little about it.
Fortean Times were good when they were a bit more sceptical about things and took everything with a pinch of salt. It’s no more than a generic ufology magazine now.
