I actually doubt that the Chinese know about the origin of SARS-CoV-2 except that it originated in bats (SARS-CoV-1 and -2 have 79% identical sequence), but I don’t think they got on it fast enough to nail down the transmission sequence. There is actually reason to doubt that the wet market was the site of the first appearance.
