Obvious to all sane people unless contaminated by MAGGots or people desperate to survive. What hath THE ORANGE TRAFFIC CONE AND MOSCOW CITIZEN mitch mcCONnell wrought on America?
“Because, you know, this virus is going to disappear. It’s a question of when. Will it come back? In a small way … will it come back in a, uh, uh, fairly large way? But we know how to deal with it now much better, you know, nobody knew anything about it. Initially. Now we know we can put out fires, we can put out, they call ‘em embers, if it’s small or it’s a FIRE! Or a hot spot. We can put it out. But … we can’t have our whole country out. Can’t do it. The country won’t take it. Won’t stand it. It’s not sustainable. And I think you’re gonna have a tremendous, uh, transition, which is a 3rd quarter … thing, I think you’re gonna have a good 4th quarter, I think next year is going to be an incredible year, economically, and with that being said, if somebody lost somebody, a parent or a wife or a husband or, uh, you know, any brothers, sisters, if you lost someone, you can never make up for that by saying, well, you’re gonna have a great year next year, economically. And so, you can never do that, but I will say from an economic standpoint I think next year is going to be a big year, there’s tremendous demand. You see, with the stock market, when stock markets are 24,000 and we went through the … worst attack we’ve ever had on our country. This is really the worst attack we’ve ever had. This is worse than Pearl Harbor. This is worse than the World Trade Center. There’s never been an attack like this. … And it should’ve never happened. It could have been stopped at the source. Could have been stopped in China. It should have been stopped right at the source. And it wasn’t.”— Donald Trump, 5 May, 2020, the Oval Office.
Very good combination of the “Open!” and “Going up?” metaphors. Very clever. As T.H. Huxley said of Darwin’s theory of natural selection, “How extremely stupid not to have thought of that [myself]!”
I’m a little put out by the whole thing too. But y’know, after 60+ years of paying attention, I’m willing, even eager, to spend quite a few more years watching the world do it’s thing to entertain us all.
Well, when serious science-minded professionals put together a list of guidelines, based on solid science, on how to safely “reopen society” – and it is rejected by the Twit Of The United States (who thinks it’s too restrictive, based on no science whatsoever – just his “gut instincts”) – then ayup, we’re all doomed!
After Pearl Harbor we had a President and a Congress that swung into action, pulled all the stops, organized the country and economy, and focused everything on defeating our enemies. Even W pulled the nation together and formulated a plan. Even with all its flaws and misdirection, it was a concerted effort to achieve, what was seen at that time, specific goals. With Trump, the goals have been confused and plans fragmented, and the immediate response was denial, and blame shifting to the Democrats, the Media, and everyone else. As always, any news he thought made him look bad was a “Hoax!”. And the “Commander in Chief” who declared he had all the authority, takes no responsibility for anything. His administration famously declared the national emergency stockpile was for them, not the states who needed it. Instead of unifying the country, Trump has encouraged his followers to disrupt governor’s efforts to mitigate the spread of the his pandemic. While he sees the value in testing for himself and his family, he discourages testing for workers he wants to go back to those plants owned by his cronies. Working to keep food on the table should not be a death sentence. Trump’s pandemic will surely result in Trump’s depression, worse than the 1930’s.
After Pearl Harbor we had a president who pulled out all the stops, organized the country, the economy, and set plans in motion to win over our enemies. Even W, after 9/11, made plans and set things in motion to achieve national goals. Lots of errors and misdirection, but he still brought people together in a common effort. Trump responded by denial, called it a “HOAX!”, shifting blame to everyone else, no real goals (except to get himself re-elected) fragmented the efforts and methods, and pitted segments of the population against governors and plans to mitigate the spread of his pandemic. His administration even announced the National Emergency supplies were for them, not the states who needed it. No, no, Kevin Hassett has figured it all out and done the numbers and everything—as of 15 May (by gum, that’s tomorrow!!) new infections will drop to zero! ZERO!!

Every other country in the world solved this through mass testing,
Republicans refuse to have testing programs, they are still in denial.
