It apears that the majority of people have no real concept of what principles are and why people who have them choose to live by them. That is what is sad.
revtry, not everybody’s principles are the same. A different boy might insist that the girl be allowed to compete as an equal, as a matter of principle.
If one chooses to stand on principle, one must accept the consequences. And as has been pointed out elsewhere, “Flexibility” is ALSO a principle.
Amazing how many people miss the point. So many people are ridiculing the boy who stood on his principles. He has gladly acepted the consequences. It is clear from comments here and elsewhere people don’t understand his choices or principles and therefore are mocking him.

If you choose to stand on principle then you accept the consequences. The boy in the strip as well as the example in real life did so.
