So if we know the tests are skewed, why still have them?

Both of my daughters were in the GATE program. The only thing they got was encouragement and accountability. In my opinion that is most important thing in a child’s education. Something that is very difficult for teachers to do.

The only thing these standardised tests test is how well you take the test. They are very basic. The maths section does not go beyond Geometry and first year Algebra. The English not much more than 10th grade levels. There are the advanced tests, maths, foreign languages, sciences that you can take now as well. It all just boils down to how well you understand their methodology and being able to read the problems. If you do it right it becomes a fairly easy True – False exam. It’s being able to read the darn thing in their SATese.
