You don’t use fresh manure as mulch! Its highly likely you will kill or severely burn your plants. Also not wise to use peat moss as a mulch. Expensive for one thing. I have used pine needles to great effect.
Properly mixed manure can help make good compost when aged. Ratio should be 1 part manure to 2 parts high carbon material like leaves and sawdust. A clue that the compost is mixed right is that it will steam when turned.
local farmer uses liquid manure on his fields, talk about smell, also got stuck behind a truck carrying liquid manure and once he pulled off the smell was in my car for hours!
