“Congress shall, immediately upon our inauguration, initiate amendments to the Constitution providing … that Congress shall serve only in an advisory capacity, calling to the attention of the President and his aides and Cabinet any needed legislation, but not acting upon same until authorized by the President so to act … "— Berzelius Windrip’s “Fifteen Points of Victory for the Forgotten Men,” from It Can’t Happen Here, by Sinclair Lewis (1935)

Mitch seems informed and prepared to assume his role in fictitious government.

Even if the details of the impeachment process are wrongly depicted here, the cartoon still rings true.

Yes, John Roberts will preside, but McConnell and the Republicans will act as the jury. I’m not sure how much control they actually have over how long the trial lasts, since the House impeachment floor managers will present the case, but jury deliberations will last no longer than it takes to poll 100 Senators.

He will be acquitted on the first ballot. There will be little or no debate. When the House impeachment managers rest their case, the GOP Senators will call for an immediate vote. How long does a Senate roll call vote take? Twenty minutes? An hour?
