The first, as I remember, SUV was the Jeep Wagoneer. It was honestly intended for what it was and didn’t sell that many. I bought an old Ford Ranger around 1999 when. Its emphasis was on utility and was suited to where I lived and what I wanted it for. Most SUV’s are just an excuse for a big car that gets around the emission standards.

We bought an SUV to replace our 2004 truck. The SUV gets better mileage and can fit everything we need to spend 2 weeks at the beach. It also has a rear camera and various safety alerts, which the truck did not. It doesn’t get a lot of use (I drive a Prius, and my husband drives a Camry hybrid), and the pandemic interrupted plans to sell the truck, but at least I can drive it safely.
