…it’s that you investigate a crime and then prosecute when crimes are found.

Sure Scott,no elected person should ever be impeached, regardless of anything at all he does. That’s great Republican thinking, I suppose.

Only in a Republican’s mind are the concepts of law and order, right and wrong, or crime and consequence known as political partisan gamesmanship. Holding the president accountable should never be about elections. Unfortunately, it seems half of this country doesn’t seem to care anymore, and no small number have shown that a certain amount of corruption is perfectly acceptable, if not down right expected from our elected leaders. Sad.

The current Republicans believe that only voting rules, the voting they suppress, alter, Gerrymander to let them win when they don’t have the numbers.

Of course we don’t trust them to vote properly. These are the same morons who voted for Nixon, Reagan, Bush, and way too many of them voted for the traitorous used car salesman.

But that is ENTIRELY beside the point. The president broke the law, ya know, high crimes and misdemeanors. That means he must be impeached and should be (in a world where public servants have any conscience) convicted.

And yes, it will probably sway public opinion. But I guess they should have thought of that BEFORE committing crimes!

I would have no problem voting for a qualified Republican in 2020, Scott. But we’re not going to be offered one, are we?

It defies human reason that citizens of the USA think that “impeachment and removal from office” is some sort of wild, extra-legal rogue political skulduggery. As kballweg has laid it out, Trumpy has impeached himself (i.e., rendered himself unfit for the office he was given by the electoral college) at least a dozen times over, and in general I think it’s fair to say that someone like Trump is what Madison and his pals had in mind when they wrote impeachment and removal from office into the constitution. Well, except that they probably would never have conceived of someone like Trumpsky occupying that office in the first place.

Of course, to Madison some slack, he never would have conceived of a Catholic or a Jew sitting on the supreme court. And a female justice would have fused his cognitive structures into a radioactive mass.

You trusted a man who cheated to get elected. And now you want everyone to trust the same man who will make every attempt to cheat to get reelected‽ I would like to play poker with you as long as I’m allowed to cheat.

It’s not that you do or don’t trust the voter, it’s the fact that someone is committing crimes and is getting away with it so far.
