I always thought that the Candy Kid was a dweeb. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that McKay had originally intended him to be Nemo’s primary sidekick, but he was pretty much written out entirely when Flip became Nemo’s friend rather than his enemy. The strip is all the better for that.
