Nordling: Hi George, this is Chester. George (on phone): Hey Coach. Nordling: Congratualtions on the big tie. That's the first time the Blackhawks didn't beat us--and your first solo coaching outing...! George (on phone): The kids were giving a hundred percent--and did you hear about Bailey's save? Everything came together. There were no problem areas. It was sweet! I wish you could have been there. Chester, I was just walking out the door. We'll talk at practice tomorrow, okay? Nordling: Okay. Mrs. Nordling: You look queasy. Are you feeling all right? Nordling: I'm the problem area.

Down deep inside, I always felt my kids won in spite of me. I consistently had winning teams.

Reminds a bit of Charlie Brown. I recall a Peanuts where on a rare occasion Chuck was not present with his team (for whatever reason) and they won the game.

Feelings useless, Coach?

Chester was a fish out of water when he was talked into the coaching job and had to rely on books since he had no soccer skills of his own and didn’t have the benefit of being a assistant coach. A bitter pill to swallow when you admit your shortcomings. The upside, he did what a bunch of cowardly parents shyed away from. Atta boy, Chester, BZ!!

A revelation dawned. Just like a certain baseball team only won their games without a certain roundheaded kid.
