This brought back sad memories. One is of the Officer’s Wives organization that had the responsibility to make sure families of deployed servicemen had money to buy food and pay bills - seems there were (are?) still a lot of men who didn’t allow their wives access to their bank accounts. [What do they expect their wives to do when they are gone for several months and the checks are automatically deposited?]. The other is of my mom (in her 70s) who was all upset about a friend and neighbor (in her 80s) who had come over in a panic because her husband (a dentist and civic and church leader) was in the hospital and she had no food in the house and no money-and, in a small town with only two banks—she didn’t even know which bank they used. It turned out that ‘Doc’ was an emotional abuser and when they married (60+ years before) he told her she was to cook, clean, tend the garden, and raise the children. For over 50 years, no one in town realized that she wasn’t just shy — everyone thought they were the ideal couple because they did ‘everything’ together. [My mom found out which bank they used and, when it turned out her friend wasn’t even listed on the account, she managed to convince the bank to allow her emergency access until her son could get there (he was on the account, but lived 3000 miles away).]
Why in the world would she give back money that he gave her? It’s their money, not his. His handing her a 20 just means he had ready cash and she didn’t. She could have gone to the ATM instead.
It occurred to me that Plugger couples are often different species, and when one of the couple is a non-predatory animal, it is always the female… at least I’ve never seen it the other way around.

My wife makes three times as much as I get from SS, so I always say, “It’s your money.”

Well if she went somewhere with a twenty why wouldn’t it come back changed? Did he think the twenty would come back washed and waxed?

Some of the previous stories show some men are still Neanderthal-how horrible. Mrs. Plugger just got her lawful half!
