What happened was that many of the major publishers decided to get rid of the ads… and then jacked the prices up in order to compensate for the fact that they no longer had ad revenue to subsidize the cost of printing. $5 an issue is going rate these days, with special editions being $8 – $10.
Meanwhile, Alterna Comics is selling ad space like in the old days, and all individual floppies are $2 or less.
