Is Joe being sarcastic in the 3rd panel?

Why does Joe find this so hard to believe? I would be proud to have a hero dog in the family.

All that proves is that Mortimer was down on the riverbank by the old paper mill.

It’s not that he’s a policeman denying the saving of a life. It’s Joe denying his dog knew what was up from miles away, thru a busy city’s noise and confusion too, and ran all the way to the site and saved the child…then ran all the way home…without getting picked up by animal control or killed by traffic.

Darn, I really liked the whole secret superhero idea! Still, it’s great to see Joe’s shock to find out Mortimer is a lot smarter than he gave him credit for.

I know these are written days in advance. But I wondered on here when Mortimer did the rescue, if Robb would reveal Mortimer’s heroics.

All dogs are heroes. Some are just looking for their chance to shine. Every dog I have ever had has worked hard at trying to help and protect my family. Sometimes I get the feeling that my dogs are feeling bad that they have not had a chance to risk their life for one of us.
