How many first timers (who really want to work out) does Big Ed even get?

Never trust a rope. That is what they use to make nooses.
We ha a big rope in our gym in high school. We had to climb it in phys ed.

Never.. climb a rope if you are not wearing pants.
That’s not a bad gag to have at the entrance to a gym as a funny prop.
Is Big Ed’s Gym on the second floor?
If you can get in the gym, you probably don’t need the gym.
