I’m an engineer. And probably either on or very near the high-functioning end of the autism spectrum. And reality oriented (see “engineer”). From my perspective, it is always the case that the truth will become known. Always. As a result, I have always found it easier in the medium and long term and not bad in the short term to simply tell the truth, the whole* truth, and nothing** but the truth whenever the conversation moves toward things that we know, such as “you’re a sperm-donor baby” (as for this illustration) and “you’re adopted” and “you have two half-sibs from my previous marriage”.
* The whole truth is impossible. Tell an age- and audience-appropriate subset of the truth.
** I like to tell tall tales, sometimes with myself as “hero.” I sincerely hope that nobody takes such stories seriously.
There is a difference between facts and truth (reality vs. philosophy). For example, the people that raised me were not my biological parents, FACT. However, they will always be my mother and father, TRUTH.
