When I was an instructor in the Navy one of my students got ticketed for driving a car without plates (a used car he had just bought). When he went to pay the fine he parked the same, unlicensed car in a no parking zone.Our commanding officer made me accompany him to his next court visit to ensure things went a bit more smoothly.

You could have just paid the fine and not gone to court.
