The video of Senator Graham explaining to his fellow republicans exactly WHY President Clinton should be impeached is both illuminating and enlightening. That, along with the clips of Senator Graham explaining in great detail WHY Trump should NOT be chosen President, still provide hours of amusement to me and my fellow Democrats.
Note to ALL politicians; NEVER speak ill of anyone or any action that you may be called upon to defend 20 or 30 years from now unless you’re quite comfortable with being labeled a “hypocrite” (of course, most Republicans HAVE NO SHAME, so exposing past ‘hypocrisies’ is simply not effective when attempting to use against them!)
My guess is that Lindsay Graham is terrified that Trump will say he is gay, and Trump has probably hinted he will do so.
It does not matter whether Graham is gay or not — once Trump makes that accusation, directly or what passes for subtlety, and true or not true, Graham’s political career is over. He would be unelectable to ANY political office. He might not even be employable as a lobbyist.
Why did the senator switch from anti-Trump to the president’s biggest support in Congress? It may be hard to believe now, but Lindsey Graham was once considered a relative moderate. During the Obama years, the South Carolina senator backed legislation that would crate a legal path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, worked with Democrats on proposals to tackle climate change, and voted to confirm Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. The Obama White House offered some praise for Graham’s friendly approach in 2010 while conservative lambasted him as “Obama Lite” And “Lindsey Grahamnesty.”
The tragedy of Graham’s reversal is that his initial assessment of Trump was correct. The president acts just as despicably as the South Carolina senator warned he would. Trump’s hostility toward the rule of law and his embrace of white nationalism are a defining challenge for this country. How Americans respond to this presidency is their ultimate moral test. Lindsey Graham may yet try to reinvent himself as a reasonable moderate partner for the next president. But for those who became sycophants to a racist golfer for personal gain, there can be no going back.
The entire GOP party is slimy. To just call Graham out sounds like the rest of those varmints are good guys. They are all venal parasites who now feast on the body of America that they deign to defend. A pox on the Republican Party. Lincoln is shamed in his grave.
