And your children will be paying for it, as will your Grandchildren, and your Great-Grandchildren, and your Great, Great Grandchildren, and your Great, Great, Great Grandchildren, and your Great, Great, Great, Great Grandchildren…and on, and on, and on, and on, and on…
So the deficit is now the Democrats’ fault, is it? I suppose I’ll draw the Wrath of the AAP (All-Aryan Party formerly known as the GOP) by inquiring why deficits only matter to the “Party of Fiscal Responsibility” when they are in the minority. But I’ll ask anyway, why do deficits matter to the “Party of Fiscal Responsibility” only when they are in the minority?
Neither party has ever be serious about balancing the budget. It would mean they would have to cut the bennies to their constituents, and that would mean lost votes next election.
The alternative was the Democrats getting the blame for a government shutdown right before an election. You want to be able to make Democrats responsible? Fine, elect a Democrat as president and give the Democrats a majority in the Senate.
Raise taxes on those that suck up resources while paying nothing and even getting subsidies – Amazon, Exxon, corporate agriculture, hedge fund managers, Trump and Romney families, etc.
To a large degree the insanely wealthy aren’t affected by the ups and downs of the economy, so why would they care? And yes, I agree we are headed for another 1987 style crash, and once again the little guy will take it right in the teeth.
The Democrats feel strongly that the government should continue to pay its debts. This is contrary to everything The Malignancy has ever done, but even the GOP, since they’re mostly in power, wanted it to happen. I prefer that, too, though I’d much rather work toward a reduced debt than a higher ceiling.

Concern for the deficit is the GOP way to attack the safety net in order to pour more money into tax cuts for the rich and wasteful military spending.
