That’s Capitalism in action. You know, saving money.

Not firing them would be… Socialism. Which would turn America into, you know, Venezuela.

I’m guessing that you’re pretty resentful that that socialistic COBRA will kick in to protect the cartoonist for a few months — assuming he can still afford it.
Capitalism has consequences. Time to learn to flip burgers and get a real job. Isn’t that what guys like you have been complaining about for years? Seems different when you’re the target demographic, doesn’t it?
Haven’t seen any news about editorial cartoonists being fired. A Google search brought up Rob Rogers but that isn’t recent and I have difficulty picturing Gorrell caring about someone who isn’t paying for him. Is this in reference to any current news?
GateHouse Media cut Nate Beeler, Rick McKee, and Mark Streeter.
Good on you for defending the profession of editorial cartooning, but did you really think it was a good idea to copy/paste someone else’s artwork to do it?
I think that most reasonable people know that newspapers have been losing circulation to the internet for a while now. There have been cuts across the boatd to stay in business.
But surely the editorial comic authors knew, as they joined internet sites like ‘GoComics’, ‘ARCAMAX’, ‘Comics Creators’, ‘Comics Kingdom’, etc. They are by no means broke nor looking at unemployment lines.
The newest thing in news to is get money not from your customers but to get it from you political allies. Newspapers aren’t going to make a profit printing local news but Jeff Bazos owns a newspaper because he thinks it is worthwhile no matter how much money it looses.Murdoch’s money comes not from telling the truth but buy lying to Trump base. The best case in point is Sheldon Adelson owning the Local Rag in Las Vegas
Newspapers are a dying medium. Not just because nobody wants to read them, but because nobody wants to buy ads in them (because nobody wants to read them). That’s part of why there are fewer and fewer owners: Individual papers are cheap(ish) because they’re unprofitable; but it’s still possible to eke out a profit from a big bunch of newspapers all toeing the same editorial line.

Still not as bad as cartoonists like Rob Rogers getting fired for drawing cartoons about the douche-bag in chief that were too honest.

The conservative mantra: minimize overhead, maximize profits. It hurts when it’s you and not the other guy, hmm?

I see the money bags but there are only a handful of papers actually making money these days.
